What about this Snare Idea?

I want a 20 to 30 ply snare drum to put vents in it, much like OCDP. However, I know that's not perfect for all situations, mostly want it for outdoor or big venues. I was wondering if I could buy a steel (or brass or whatever shell) Free Floating snare drum then buy a 30 ply shell and just swap them out depending on the situation? I mean, if I had a 14x6.5 FF snare, would that mean I would have to buy a 14x6.5 30 ply shell? Or would it have to be smaller width? Also, for the 30 ply shell would I have to get the snare beds as well?

OR, would this work at all?

The snare bed would be part of the FF assembly. You would need a bearing edge cut though. The bottom of the shell could be left flat. Good luck and let us know how it comes out.
